There are very few books on the Singapore economy. This one is largely non-technical in nature and brings the reader up to speed on the key issues facing policymakers in Singapore in the wake of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. The contributors are all experts in their field and have extensive experience of the Singapore economy. The book also offers an international dimension to look at the role of China in the Asian economy and the impact on Asia of reforms to the international financial architecture.

This book has contributions by several authors, and many of the chapters make for very interesting reading, if this is your kind of subject. I especially recommend the title essay in chapter 2, as well as chapters 8 and 10, on monetary and exchange rate policy respectively.International financial reform is addressed in chapter 4. A crucial issue these days, but written almost without reference to Singapore, which makes it a bit of an outlier in this book. A very few of the essays, I felt, fell short and I've taken out a single star. I won't say which these are, but the reader will catch on very quickly. But the good stuff is really worth your while.
